Champagne Étienne Calsac is a small récoltant-manipulant in Avize, on the Côte des Blancs.
- History: Étienne Calsac comes from a line of winegrowers going back to the eighteenth century. After his training and experience at estates in France and abroad, he took over the family estate at around the age of twenty-six.
- Vineyards and terroir: He farms about 2.8 hectares of vines around thirty years old in Avize, Grauves and Bisseuil, plus a clos in Avize and a small plot near Sézanne planted with rare old grape varieties.
- Approach and style: Each parcel is vinified separately. Fermentations are often spontaneous and the wines are partly aged in wood. Vineyard work focuses on healthy soils, with a move towards organic farming.
- Cuvées: Alongside chardonnay cuvées such as Les Rocheforts, Val l'Hermite and Clos des Maladries, he makes Les Revenants, a blend of pinot blanc, petit meslier and arbane.
