Champagne Egrot & Filles is a small, innovative champagne house in Aÿ, founded in 2008 by the couple Elisabeth and Jean-Marie. They combined their family specialities to become an independent récoltant-manipulant, which gives them full control over the production process from vine to bottle.
History and Method Both partners came from winegrowing families and decided in 2012 to become independent by purchasing the technical installations and buildings. Their philosophy is aimed at honest, fresh champagnes with low sugar content, without following fashion trends. The estate is certified under Terra Vitis and HVE 3 (High Environmental Value) for sustainability.
Vineyards The estate manages 6.5 hectares of vineyards in Grand Cru and Premier Cru areas, spread over Aÿ, Louvois, Mutigny, Mareuil and Tauxières. The average age of the vines is 35 years. The grape varieties are mainly Pinot Noir (2/3) and Chardonnay (1/3); no Pinot Meunier is used.
Champagnes and Cuvées The range consists of three main lines and a limited edition:
- Brut: A fresh, harmonious cuvée from Louvois, ideal as an aperitif or with seafood.
- Extra-Brut: Characterised by an intense nose and a fresh, broad finish.
- Millésime: Vintage champagnes (e.g. 2009 or 2011) that are gastronomic, sensual and aromatic.
- Blanc de Blancs Millésime: A rare 1.5L magnum of 100% Chardonnay (e.g. 2016).
Visitors can tour the historic, UNESCO-heritage cellars and book tastings. Address: 6, rue Anatole France, 51160 Aÿ-Champagne.
