Champagne Cottet-Dubreuil is a family business in Courteron (Côte des Bar) that has been producing champagne since 1985. The house was founded by Alain Cottet (a Parisian botanist) and Claudie Dubreuil, who breathed new life into the prestigious heritage of the Dubreuil family (present in Courteron since the 14th century). Today the estate is run by their daughter Claire Cottet, who combines the traditions with modern, respectful developments.
The vineyards cover 6 hectares, divided over some twenty plots along the slopes of the Vallée de la Seine in villages such as Courteron, Plaines-Saint-Lange and Gyé-sur-Seine. The viticulture is geared towards sustainability and respect for biodiversity; the estate bears the Exploitation de Haute Valeur Environnementale (EHVE) label and is certified as Vignobles et Découvertes.
The approach emphasises authenticity and the 'feminine touch' of Claire Cottet, who has also had architectural elements designed in the estate. The champagnes are made with the local grape varieties, with Pinot Noir (approx. 70%) dominating, complemented by Chardonnay (approx. 30%). The tasting takes place in the ancestral cellars, followed by a tasting in a modern setting.
The house's main champagnes are:
- Brut Tradition
- Brut Prestige
- Brut Rosé
- Brut Prestige Millésimé (including vintages 2004 and 2005)
- Cuvée Charles René
- Cuvée Clair de Siècle Vintage (a vintage cuvée that Claire designed in collaboration with her brother Jean-Pierre, a silversmith, for the aesthetic aspect)
Visitors can visit the estate by appointment (Mon-Fri 09:00-12:00 and 14:00-18:00, weekends by appointment) for a cellar visit and tasting, with rates around €10 per adult.
