Champagne Carbon is an independent champagne house based in Champillon (Marne), founded in 2016 by Alexandre Mea, the fifth generation of the Devavry family. The brand name and iconic design are inspired by Formula 1, where Carbon was the official champagne supplier between 2017 and 2020. Since 2019 the house has also been a partner of Bugatti, resulting in exclusive vintage editions.
History and Vineyards The house builds on a family history of more than 100 years and a centuries-old tradition of winegrowing. The grapes come exclusively from Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards in Champillon and the Marne valley, in particular on the chalky soils of the Montagne de Reims. The grape varieties are Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier, selected for their mineral character and complexity.
Approach and Processing Carbon combines traditional champagne methods with innovation. A distinctive element is the bottle, which is covered by hand with aerospace-grade carbon fibre, a technique borrowed from motorsport. This packaging protects the wine from light, shocks and temperature fluctuations. The champagnes undergo long ageing in the cellars of Champillon, with vinification focused on precision and preserving the natural expression of the terroir.
Champagnes and Collections The range is aimed at collectors and includes:
- Carbon Brut: The non-vintage standard.
- Carbon Rosé: A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
- Carbon Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Vintage: Exclusively Chardonnay from Grand Cru vineyards.
- Bugatti Editions: Special vintage releases such as the EB.01 (Vintage 2002) and EB.02 Chiron 300+ (Vintage 2016), as well as the Carbon Millésime 2009.
The bottles are available from approximately €220 for the Brut and €270 for the Rosé, with higher prices for the vintage and Bugatti editions. Production is deliberately limited to guarantee exclusivity.
