Champagne Alain Lallement is a family champagne house based in Verzy, a grand cru village in the Montagne de Reims. The house combines a long winegrowing tradition with a modern, responsible approach.
History and Management
- The Lallement family has been connected with Verzy and Rilly-la-Montagne for more than a century.
- Alain Lallement took over the business in 1975 (some sources give 1985 as the establishment in Verzy) and ran the house until 2020.
- Since 2020 the estate has been run by his son Antoine and his partner Camille, who continue the family vision.
- It is a production estate (vigneron) that produces approximately 25,000 bottles per year.
Vineyards and Terroir
- The vineyards are located in Verzy (grand cru), but also in Rilly-la-Montagne and Tauxières.
- The terroir is known for its chalky soil and microclimate, ideal for Pinot Noir (dominant) and Chardonnay.
- The house uses a chalk cellar in Verzy for the ageing of the champagnes.
Approach and Sustainability
- Viticulture is reasoned (raisonnée), with a strong focus on respecting nature and minimising treatments.
- The estate is a member of the RACK programme (Réduire l'Usage des produits de Chimie de Synthèse dans les Champagnes), aimed at reducing insecticides.
- The champagnes generally age for two to four years before being disgorged and offered for sale.
Champagnes and Cuvées
- Brut Tradition: The core cuvée, a blend of approximately 2/3 Pinot Noir and 1/3 Chardonnay, known for its freshness and structure.
- Blanc de Blancs: Made from 100% Chardonnay from Verzy, with aromas of citrus, almond and cire.
- Cuvée Prestige: A high-quality cuvée that emphasises the finesse and character of the terroir.
- Blanc de Noirs and Brut Rosé: Other varieties that complete the range.
- The house also offers Ratafia.
Visits and Accommodation
- The estate is located at 19 (or 34) rue Carnot, 51380 Verzy.
- Cellar visits and tastings are possible, often by reservation.
- Guests can stay overnight in chambres d'hôtes (bed & breakfast) or gîtes (holiday homes) in a 19th-century house on the estate.
