Savigny-sur-Ardre lies in the Marne department, in the valley of the Ardre, west of Reims. The village has no cru classification.
The Vallée de l'Ardre is one of the official sub-regions of Champagne. The vineyards lie on the slopes on either side of the Ardre and its small tributaries, and the valley is known above all for growing meunier. As a result, the champagnes are generally fruity, round and approachable.
The village lies on the tourist champagne route of the Massif de Saint-Thierry and the Vallée de l'Ardre, along which growers welcome visitors for tours and tastings. In Savigny-sur-Ardre, Charles Degodet, among others, makes champagne.
Opposite the church, a memorial plaque commemorates General Charles de Gaulle, who, according to the plaque, gave a radio address here in May 1940.
