Château-Thierry is the most important town of the champagne area in the Aisne department (02), located on the Marne, in the western part of the Vallée de la Marne. The commune has no cru status.
- Location: the town is dominated by the remains of its medieval castle above the Marne and is the birthplace of the fabulist Jean de La Fontaine.
- Vineyards: around the town the vineyards lie on slopes above the river, on clay, marl and sand over limestone. Meunier is the dominant grape.
- Producers: Château-Thierry is home to the house of Pannier, which ages its wines in old underground quarries beneath the town.
