Champagne Tribaut-Schloesser is a family business in Romery (Champagne, France) that has produced champagnes since 1929, now run by the fourth generation, Sébastien and Valentin Tribaut.
History
The origin lies with René Schloesser, a Luxembourg farmer, who married Lucie Coutelas from Romery. In 1929, during the economic crisis, they decided to make their own champagne, starting with just 1,000 bottles which René took to the station by bicycle. In 1950 the families merged through the marriage of their children Jean Tribaut and Suzanne Schloesser, which formed the basis of the current house. The current owners, the brothers Sébastien and Valentin, combine modern techniques with centuries-old traditions.
Vineyards
The estate has its own vignoble of approximately 20 hectares (some sources mention vinification for 40 ha), located mainly in Romery, Cormoyeux and Fleury-la-Rivière.
- Soil type: Clay-limestone soils on south/south-east facing slopes.
- Grape varieties: The blends are 30% Chardonnay, 30% Pinot Meunier and 40% Pinot Noir.
- Certification: Since 2023 the estate's own vineyard has been organically certified, and the estate has been HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certified for longer.
Working Methods
Tribaut-Schloesser is known for its traditional vinification combined with modern precision.
- Ageing: A characteristic element is the ageing of wine in oak foudres (up to 55 hl), which contributes to the complex, aromatic profiles of the champagnes.
- Maturation: The champagnes undergo a minimum maturation of 30 months on the lees, with some cuvées up to 7 years.
- Dosage: Many cuvées are naturally low or non-dosed (brut nature/zero dosage) to preserve the purity of the terroir.
- Production: Annual production is approximately 350,000 bottles.
Champagnes
The house produces a wide range of cuvées, including:
- Brut Tradition: A classic blend of Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay.
- Blanc de Chardonnay Vallée du Brunet: 100% Chardonnay, partly aged in oak.
- L'Authentique: A cuvée that is often tied with a traditional string closure.
- Rosé de Noirs: Made from black grapes.
- Cuvées René and Jean-Marie: Special selections that honour the family's heritage lines.
