Champagne Penet-Chardonnet
Champagne house in Champagne.
Champagne Penet-Chardonnet is a small Grand Cru house in Verzy, in the Montagne de Reims, run by Alexandre Penet.
- History: The house was born in 1967 when Christian Penet married Marie-Louise Chardonnet, bringing the vineyards of both families together. Alexandre Penet took over from his father in 2009. He has an engineering background, an MBA and an oenology degree from the University of Reims.
- Vineyards and terroir: The estate covers about 6 hectares in some thirty small plots, 5 hectares in Verzy and 1 hectare in Verzenay, all Grand Cru. Pinot Noir accounts for about two-thirds of the vines, Chardonnay for the rest.
- Approach and style: Every plot is vinified separately and the best sites are bottled as individual lieux-dits. Under the umbrella of La Maison Penet there is also the Alexandre Penet brand, made from purchased grapes.
- Cuvées: Well-known cuvées include the blanc de noirs Les Épinettes and La Croix l'Aumônier, Les Fervins, the Cuvée Prestige Coline & Candice and Terroir & Sens.
