Champagne Lenne is a champagne house based in Nogent-l'Abbesse (51420), about a 15-minute drive from Reims, known for its chalky, chalk-bearing soil that is ideal for growing Chardonnay. The business, formally registered as Champagne Christophe Lenne (founded in 2014, but with a deeper family history), is run by Christophe Lenne, who returned to the family business in 2009 to continue and expand the tradition.
History
The origins of the house go back to Pierre, Christophe's great-grandfather, who began winegrowing after the First World War and initially sold his grapes to a local cooperative. In 1990 Yolande and Jean-Claude Lenne took over the management and renamed it Maison Lenne. An important milestone came in 2000, when they decided to regain independence from the cooperative by investing in a press of their own. Christophe Lenne subsequently expanded the acreage with Grand Cru and Premier Cru vineyards and in 2018 obtained the HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certificate for their environmentally conscious, 'raisonnée' (balanced) cultivation methods.
Vineyards and Winemaking
The vineyards lie on south-facing slopes with a 75-million-year-old chalk soil (Campanian period), which contributes to the finesse and freshness of the champagnes. The house specialises mainly in white grape varieties, especially Chardonnay, resulting in elegant and fresh profiles. The winemakers continually emphasise reinvention and respect for the climate, which is visible in their commitment to sustainable farming practices.
Champagnes
The range of Champagne Lenne comprises six items, including:
- Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
- Champagne Rosé Lenne
- Champagne Millésime Lenne
- Champagne Blancs de Blancs Grand Cru Lenne
- Magmun
The house invites visitors for tastings at their address: 216 Rue de Reims, 51420 Nogent-l'Abbesse.
