## History Champagne Harlin Père & Fils is a family business that has been producing champagne for three generations in Mareuil-le-Port (Marne valley). The origin lies with Guy Harlin, who planted his first vineyard in 1969 and moved to Mareuil-le-Port in 1971. In 1985 the SCEV was officially founded by Monique and Guy, together with their sons Dominique, Raynald and Bruno. Since 2012 the brothers Maxime and Guillaume Harlin have been assisted by their father Dominique, focusing on biodynamic methods and phytotherapy. Production started in 1993 with the first cuvée of their own.
Vineyards
The vineyards cover about 9.5 hectares (sources vary between 8 and 10 hectares) and lie across the communes of Mareuil-le-Port, Épernay and Tours-sur-Marne. The soil consists of 60% clay and 40% sand. The three classic Champagne grape varieties are used: Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, supplemented by the forgotten Petit Meslier. Part of the vineyards in Tours-sur-Marne is classified as Grand Cru.
Winemaking
The estate follows an organic and sustainable philosophy with zero herbicides. The vineyards are maintained with phytotherapy, plant decoctions and mechanical work. Since 2021 there has been an official conversion to organic viticulture (Bio). To keep the soil alive, a flock of Ouessant sheep is used for mowing and manuring. The winery holds High Environmental Value (HVE) and Sustainable Viticulture in Champagne (VDC) certifications. The wine philosophy focuses on respecting the terroir and promoting biodiversity.
Champagnes
The estate produces expressive champagnes that reflect the complexity of the soils. Some notable cuvées are:
- Les Chemins de Traverse: A Grand Cru of Pinot Noir from Tours-sur-Marne, blended in oak barrels, with a score of 16.5/20.
- Les Sentes de Mareuil: A blend of Pinot Noir and Meunier, known for its wild berry notes and finish, scored 16/20.
- L'Escapade: A cuvée of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Meunier.
- Une Longue Escapade: Another expressive cuvée from the estate.
The champagnes are available through direct sales at the cellars in Mareuil-le-Port or via the website. Visitors can take part in tours and tastings, ranging from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours, with prices between €20 and €30 per person.
