Champagne Éric Chardonnet is a wine house in Ville-Dommange (Montagne de Reims), run by Éric Chardonnet and his brother Christophe. The family history goes back to 1921, when their grandfather began winegrowing, but the house was officially founded in 1956 by René Chardonnet. Since 1990 Éric and Christophe have continued the family tradition with the same dedication.
The estate comprises 18 plots with various soil types, ranging from chalky and loamy soils in the Montagne de Reims to clay soils in the Marne Valley. The vineyards are characterised by sustainable viticultural practices, which resulted in the VDC (Viticulture Durable en Champagne) and HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) certifications in 2021.
The champagnes are made from the three traditional grape varieties: Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Some striking cuvées are:
- Brut Tradition: A blend of 40% Meunier, 40% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay, with 3 years of ageing.
- Cuvée Prestige: A long-aged blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
- Cuvée Villa Dominica: Aged in oak barrels for 8 years, consisting of 34% Meunier, 33% Pinot Noir and 33% Chardonnay.
- Blanc de Blancs: An elegant champagne of 100% Chardonnay.
- Millésime: Made from a single year, with at least 3 years of ageing and a blend of 45% Meunier, 35% Pinot Noir and 20% Chardonnay.
- Cuvée Duo: A blend of different vintages and reserve wines with spicy and buttery notes.
The house's address is 7 rue de Jouy, 51390 Ville-Dommange, and they have an online shop for direct sales.
