Champagne Biard-Loyaux is an independent winegrowing house based in Passy-sur-Marne, in the heart of the Marne valley near Dormans and Château-Thierry. The business is a family estate that has existed since 1947 and is currently managed by the fourth generation.
- History: The operation was founded in 1947 by the ancestors of the current couple Laurent and Dominique. They maintain the traditions of independent winegrowers and produce approximately 194,000 bottles per year.
- Vineyards: The vineyards cover 10 hectares and lie on south-south-west-facing slopes with chalky soil. This terroir is ideal for the three classic Champagne grape varieties: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.
- Approach: From vineyard to bottle they keep full control. The wine is vinified in their own cellar and undergoes a second fermentation in bottle. Special attention is paid to ageing in oak barrels (for certain cuvées) and the manual turning (remuage) of the bottles.
- Champagnes: The range includes various cuvées such as the Grande Réserve (Brut), Rosé Assemblage (with Pinot Noir that has aged for a year in oak barrels), Blanc Or Blancs (100% Chardonnay, aged 3 years) and the Prestige cuvée (50% Chardonnay, 25% Pinot Noir, 25% Pinot Meunier, aged 5 years). They also produce vintages such as the Millésime 2018 and a special cuvée called White is Black.
