Champagne Alain Bedel is an independent champagne house located on the Route des Coteaux in Charly-sur-Marne (Vallée de la Marne), with a history going back to the 16th century and officially beginning in 1954.
History
The Bedel family has been connected with the Grand Porteron terroir for centuries. After a period of modest agricultural production, Lucien Bedel laid down the house's first bottles in 1954. His son Alain Bedel expanded the estate to 8 hectares, focusing on artisanal quality and full control over the production process.
Vineyards and Approach
- Location: The vineyards lie on south-facing slopes of Grand Porteron, ideal for ripening the grapes.
- Cépages: The estate has Pinot Meunier, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
- Production method: Bedel uses hand harvesting and a traditional press to preserve the integrity of the fruit. All vinification and handling take place on the estate.
- Sustainability: The estate is promoted for its high environmental value and nature-true approach.
Champagnes
The range includes several cuvées that reflect the authenticity of the terroir:
- Rosé Romantique Brut
- Blanc de Blancs Brut (including millésime, such as 2022)
- Vieilles Vignes Brut (with millésimes such as 2019 and 2002)
- Ratafia and Eau de Vie de la Marne
The house is known for its "true and natural" champagnes, with emphasis on the pure expression of the soil types and the careful selection of grapes.
