Champagne Autréau
Champagne house in Champagne.
Champagne Autréau (Autréau de Champillon) is a family house in Champillon, a premier cru village in the Montagne de Reims just north of Épernay.
- History: The Autréau family has grown grapes in Champillon since 1670. Until the early 1950s the grapes were sold to major houses and négociants. In 1953 Gérald Autréau decided to keep the grapes and make champagne himself. His son Eric ran the house for some forty years; today grandson Laurent Autréau is in charge.
- Vineyards and terroir: The house has around 32 hectares of vineyards spread across several parts of the region.
- Approach and style: Autréau has moved towards sustainable viticulture and is a member of the Magister network, which limits the number of treatments and allows only environmentally friendly products.
- Cuvées: The range includes a Brut, Premier Cru, Rosé, Réserve Grand Cru and vintage wines, among them Les Perles de la Dhuy, a chardonnay-led vintage cuvée.
