Trannes lies in the Bar-sur-Aubois, in the east of the Côte des Bar, in the valley of the Aube north-west of Bar-sur-Aube (Aube department). The commune has no cru status.

• Vineyards: as everywhere in the Côte des Bar, Pinot Noir predominates, planted on lime-rich clay and marl soils.
• Character: the champagnes are ripe and fruity, with the roundness and red fruit that characterise Pinot Noir from the Aube.
• Producers: Arnoult-Ruelle makes champagne here.

Trannes is one of the smaller wine communes of the Bar-sur-Aubois, where viticulture goes hand in hand with arable farming and woodland.
