Champagne Michel Genet is a family-run business in Chouilly (Côte des Blancs), founded in the 1960s by Michel Genet and run since then by his children Antoine, Vincent and sister-in-law Agnès. The house positions itself as "Manufacteurs de Grands Crus", which refers to their handmade (manu-facture) approach in which every step of the winemaking is personally supervised.
The vineyards cover approximately 9 hectares (some sources mention 8 ha) spread over 37 plots in the Grand Cru municipalities Chouilly and Cramant. The soil is mainly chalky and the vines have an average age of 35 years. The grape varieties are predominantly Chardonnay, with a small percentage of Pinot Noir. The viticulture is sustainable (lutte raisonnée) and the harvest is by hand, with each parcel harvest vinified separately to preserve terroir expression.
The champagnes are produced in a historic building from 1900 ("Le Transvaal") and undergo parcel vinification and ageing in the cellars. The range includes:
- Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru: From pure Chardonnay.
- Brut Esprit: A non-vintage blend with low dosage.
- Prestige de la Cave: A cuvée from old vineyards.
- Rosé: A blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
Visitors can visit the estate at 27-29 rue des Partelaines, 51530 Chouilly, by appointment or during opening hours (Mon-Sun 09:00-11:30 & 13:30-16:00, depending on season). Production is approximately 75,000-80,000 bottles a year.
