Champagne Lanson, founded in 1760 by François Delamotte, is the fourth oldest champagne house in the world and is located at Rue de Courlancy 66 in Reims. Since 2006 it has been part of the Lanson-BCC holding and is one of the few houses to own its own clos vineyard (Clos Lanson) in the heart of Reims.
The winemaking approach is characterised by a fresh style in which no malolactic fermentation is often applied, preserved by cooling the young wine. The champagnes age for at least three to five years, longer than legally required, and draw on an extensive reserve wine library with vintages going back to 1904. Lanson produces almost five million bottles a year from grapes from more than 500 hectares in 60 villages, 50% of which come from Grand and Premier Crus.
The main champagnes include:
- Le Black Label Brut: the house style (35% Chardonnay, 50% Pinot Noir, 15% Pinot Meunier).
- Le Rosé Label: a rosé champagne with the same grape combination.
- Noble Cuvée Brut: the prestige cuvée, a vintage of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
- Clos Lanson: a single-cru champagne from the walled vineyard by the cathedral.
- Le Green Bio-Organic: a champagne certified organic and biodynamic.
