History Agrapart was founded in 1894 by Arthur Agrapart in Avize (Côte des Blancs). The family business was run for decades by the brothers Pascal and Fabrice Agrapart, who modernised the estate and raised its quality. In 2021 the brothers split their activities; Pascal continued to run Agrapart & Fils, while Fabrice founded his own house Agrapart Avize, both based in Avize.
Vineyards The estate manages approximately 10 to 12 hectares of its own vineyards, located exclusively in Grand Cru villages: Avize, Cramant, Oger and Oiry, with a few plots in Premier Cru villages such as Avenay-Val-d’Or. The soil is rich in chalk and limestone, ideal for the dominant grape Chardonnay. The average age of the vines is around 35 to 40 years, with some vines older than 60 years.
Approach Agrapart takes an organic and sustainable approach without chemical pesticides, artificial fertiliser or herbicides. The vineyards are worked by hand, sometimes with horses, and the harvest is exclusively by hand. In the cellar the wine is filtered and clarified, often with native yeast and in oak barrels. The champagnes undergo a long ageing process on the lees (often 4-7 years) and are bottled with a low dosage (often Extra Brut or Brut Nature) to preserve the expression of the terroir.
Champagnes The core of the portfolio consists of high-quality Blanc de Blancs:
- 7 Crus: The signature cuvée, a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from seven villages (approximately 90% Chardonnay).
- Terroirs: A blend of top wines from Grand Cru villages, aged in oak.
- Minéral: Made from old vines on chalky soils, with a tight, mineral taste.
- Avizoise: A millésime cuvée from old vines on clay-limestone soils, known for its depth and complexity.
- Vénus: A Brut Nature cuvée from a specific plot in Avize, named after a horse that ploughed the vineyard.
- Complantée: A rare mix of six grape varieties (Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier, Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc) from Avize.
- Atoma: A recent non-vintage cuvée based on a perpetual reserve (starting in 2022) for consistency and complexity.
